For more than a decade, along our Flint Hills Guesthouse journey, we have been fortunate to host some of the most terrific people from all around the world. The wonder of discovering a new place lights up eyes and fills hearts like nothing else.
Traveling has a knack for bringing out the wonderment in even the most hardened of souls, doesn’t it? The chance to uncover something new, explore something old, and learn about other lands refreshes our lives and brings us all a greater perspective. As guesthouse hosts, we relish the opportunity to witness this.
Traveling can be more than just the experience of something new. Our guesthouses often bring people home. Friends and family have returned to their roots during their stays with us and rediscovered their love of the Flint Hills or the hometown where they grew up. Guiding people home again is a cherished benefit of what we do. Moms and Dads bring their kids back to the place where they grew up. A new fiancé seeing the place that molded the love of their life. A grandparent sharing their familial history with new generations. These types of visits to our area bring a different kind of joy, and we adore it.
We don’t always get to greet our guests in person. When this happens, we rely on their reviews after the fact to learn how their trip went, how we did as hosts, and what they enjoyed most about their time in Chase County, Kansas.
Over the years, we’ve been reviewed hundreds and hundreds of times on various platforms. Each review is an opportunity for insight and growth for the Lark Inn Guesthouses.
Here are some of the reviews that grew our hearts and grew our ability to be better hosts…
“We stayed at the house on Main St. and just loved it. The Larkins really have a knack for making a cozy and stylish dwelling that is the perfect base of operations for exploring either Cottonwood Falls (it's a minute walk away from "downtown") or the general Flint Hills area. It would be especially perfect for either a trip to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve or for a romantic getaway. Really loved it.”

“We had such a fun, relaxing stay at the Lark Inn. We rented both the Lark Inn on Main and the Lark Inn on Elm. The Lark Inn on Main has a fun, old-west feel, and the Lark Inn on Elm is a modernized Victorian prairie home that easily sleeps 5 or 6 people. The kitchens are modern, with all the tools you need to feed two or ten. The beds and pillows are comfortable. The baby grand in the Elm Street house is a definite plus. Pat and Kris provide a welcoming and easygoing retreat from the stress of everyday life. Both houses are within walking distance of friendly and interesting downtown Cottonwood Falls. WiFi, farm-fresh eggs, and homemade muffins provide a welcome touch to our visit. The carrot muffins were FABULOUS...so good that we asked for the recipe. I personally enjoyed having books available for quiet times, and the front porch on Elm was my most favorite spot to relax, meet the neighbors, listen to and watch the varied bird life, and even watch the rodeo parade. A week-long family vacation was just the thing at the Lark Inn on Elm in Cottonwood Falls was just what this busy lady needed!”

“The cute cottage on the prairie was exactly what we were looking for! A quiet setting with a Flint Hills view and a place for our pup to run! The place exceeded our expectations for location, cleanliness, and a cool tiny house vibe. Pat and Kris were very responsive and friendly. We will absolutely come back and stay at their prairie house!”

“Amazing place to stay with an amazing kitchen. We gathered as a family outside at the fire pit and relaxed. It is such a beautiful place with attention to every detail in the decor. Can be a great place to get away and relax as a family or a gathering place for a group of friends. We enjoyed the trails in the very nearby Flint Hills National Park. The flowers blooming, and the sunrise are amazing. The sunset is as beautiful as any beach sunset I’ve seen. Easy location to get to from many major Kansas cities. The hosts have thought about everything. They are great at communicating!”

“Aunt Kate’s cottage is the perfect spot for a vacation in the Flint Hills. It’s beautifully decorated, well equipped, and even has some special homemade treats to make you feel more than welcome. Nearby Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is a true gem: great hiking trails, Bison herds, and amazing wildflowers & birds. The town of Cottonwood has a charm all its own. The perfect home away from home!”

“What a great AirBnB! It's a new rental, so everything is in great shape. Light, bright, and airy. Lovely touches like chocolates on the pillows, muffins on the counter, and farm-fresh eggs in the fridge. The bed was insanely comfortable, and the two wall-mounted AC units worked like champs and yet were SO very quiet. Great outdoor spaces at the front and the back, and there's a shared picnic table and fire pit area. Although it was just my husband and I at the cottage - we felt we had tons of privacy even with the neighboring cottage occupied. A fabulous place to go with your significant other, this cottage would also be an amazing place for 2 couples traveling together!”
